Does lighting make fish act differently?

Just yesterday I changed the lighting on my 32gal tank, It is much brighter now and much better for my plants.
And I noticed right away all of my fish acting differently. My Red Eye Tetras are no longer hanging out in the top corner and they go into the middle of the tank now, and same with my zebra loaches, they swim around more and check out the middle of the tank more.
What's up with this??

If the change was significant the fish may have to adjust. Floating plants will make them feel more secure, but that reduces the light getting to the lower rooted plants, so you have to balance. What exactly is the lighting (watts, type) and how long is it on.
