more cories or more types of cories?
 

i am setting up a 75g tank. going to be a school tank with mostly tetras. i want to get some cories for it. i want to have peppered, panda, and emerald green cories. currently i was planning on getting 4 of each. would that to ok with them being social fish. or would i be better of getting less varieties but in larger numbers? do different varieites of cories school together?

I've read that they shouldn't be kept in anything less than a trio but prefer to be in shoals of 6 or more. I've also read different species don't shoal together but will hang out together on occasion. Again, only what I've read on species as I only keep one type of cory species. In a 75 you certainly have the room to keep any species/amount you decide. :-D

I have bronze, albinos and peppers, Mine all school together, But they do seem to know their kinds.

I have albinos and skunk corries.
Although I sometimes see them all mixed up, most of the time the skunk corries are in their own separate group.

what number do you guys have?

I have 6 albinos and 4 of the skunk cories. I would like to have a couple more of the skunks, but I actually found the ones I have at Walmart about a year ago and have not found anymore for sale locally.

As previous posts have indicated (correctly), corys will shoal together as individual species or mixed species. I try to have three of each species (when I can get them or can afford them), and I currently have 2-3 of several species in my two aquaria. My experience has been that when given the option (to shoal with their own species or other species) they usually prefer their own species, but will now and then mix in with the other species in the tank. Your plan of 4 of each species is fine. Interestingly, I have found over the years that C. panda are particularly fond of remaining together, moreso than the others I have kept. I currently have three C. panda in my 70g, with three C. similis and 1 C. duplicareus (bought the last one in the store and haven't seen any since). The pandas frequently chum around with the duplicareus, but much less often with the similis, and they (similis) tend to remain alone or with one or both of their species.
