A Strange Fish Spot
I hope this is the right forum to post this in, my apologies if I am wrong.
About two days ago one of our fishes developed a small red spot on his forehead - I guess you could describe it as a wart (I have attached a couple of images). It has remained the same size and it shows no sign of upsetting the fish but I really would like to know whether this is something we can fix. We regularly change the water and the day I noticed it, I started an antiseptic treatment - given to me by the local ‘fish expert’. In my opinion it does very little or nothing though.
I do hope one of you can help, after all you can’t help but get attached to these little things!
I would keep a close eye on it. Look for any areas of red or different colors on and around it, or if it develops a white fuzz over it.
What exactly is this antiseptic treatment you have been using? Every detail will be a help.
In the meantime I suggest you make sure you maintain good water quality with water changes, gravel vacuuming, and filter maintenance.
Thank you so much for the information. Yes, I will keep an eye on water quality and continue the water changes as planned. The product I have been using is called 'Temerol' by Aquascience. It is supposed to be an antiseptic treatment for bacterial problems.
Although I have never used that product, it appears to be a general bacteraial infection treatment. Have you removed any carbon you may have in any of your filters? This will interfere with the medication if it remains in the filter.
Keep us updated!
I think it is normal since it is a goldfish
As a follow up, I am curious on the details of your tank.
Size, filtration, number of fish, what food you feed...
If you could provide more information, that will help us all to give you the best advice.
Keep in mind, the goldfish can get to sizes of over 12 inches and require a pretty large aquarium in order to live a long healthy life.
