Lost a BN today Don't have a clue the cause, I think it was old age. He was 5.5 inches long and a beaut. No problems with the tank, pH 7.2 GH 8 KH 7 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 15-20 PO4 1-1.5 Temp steady at 78 Was eating normally 2 days ago and then died today No signs of disease and a full belly, not constipated because he pooped yesterday. Ate some zucchini 2 days ago and the female in the tank is helathy as ever. No other signs of fish in distress and no neons died so I have to assume it was just his time. Guess I will have to find a smaller male to try and get the mating I hoped from him. RIP Bud |
Sorry to hear that, Chris.:blueworry: How old was he? |
I had him about 9 months but would guess he was close to 4-? years old if not older. Haven't been able to find any real reliable data on their ages and sizes but the ones I did find said that a 5 in brown BN is likely over 4 years. |

I have a 5 yrs old SAE here. He's not showing signs of old age.:squint: Whereas my male blue ram at a year old did.:blueworry: He died reaching the age of one year.:sob: |
Sorry to hear about the BN Chris, it sounds like it was just his time to go. Good luck with getting another male :) |
