Transport of Fish

Hello,
I am going to college this coming Fall and I recently learned that my dorm allows fish tanks up to 10 gallons (yay!) so I will be taking my fish tank with me. I have a 10 gallon tank with three goldfish, each about 2 inches long each. My question about this is, what would be the easiest way to transport my fish and tank to college? Should I put each goldfish in a bag and drain the tank? Or what? They will have to accompany me on a two hour drive to go to college and I just want to know the most efficient way to transport them.

Thanks!

Put them in plastic bags of their own water. Put the bags in a cardboard box that is lined with styrofoam sheets on all sides. If it will be hot or cold, use a cold or hot pack as appropriate, but your best bet is to keep them out of the sun but in the passenger compartment of your car if possible.

DO NOT transport your fish in the tank. I made that newb mistake once and only in hindsight was it obvious. Fish died. Of course, he was bashed to death on substrate and decorations. Still feel bad for Robert The Fish.

I really do hate to be the bearer of bad news, but goldfish are not suitable for a ten gallon tank :( Those 'feeder' goldfish at petshops can grow up to 18 inches long, although in a ten gallon they will eventually die of stunted growth.

Even 'fancy' goldfish reach up to 6 inches, and generally require a tank around 55 gallons.

You may want to look for fish that will be happier in a tank that size, such as a betta.
