I just got my chiller in about 2 days ago. I have been lowering the temp by 2 degrees each day. well here is my question. It is recommended at a flow rate between 100-400 gph. I orded a pump that is 370gph, but by the time it goes through the pipe and the chiller and back to the tank it is about 100 gph. my question is does it chill better at the lower end or the higher end of the flow rate? I am thinking about getting a larger pump.

The longer the dwell time the cooler the water is exiting the chiller. I'd just keep an eye on the systems performanc for a month and see how well it works. Slowly lowering the temp 2 degrees per day sounds like it's doing great job as is.

i guess i understood that but, at about 100 gal per hour. It will barlly cycle the entire system in an hour?
If it was at say 350gal/hour then it would cycle the system more then 4 times. it would also increase water movement in the tank. So I guess im asking do you still say to leave it the way it is?

Don' tplan on using the chiller's pump as extra flow in the tank. It's to minute to calculate it into the big picture. Is the chiller running continously? For 5 minutes 5 times an hour? For 10 minutes once an hour?

well the chiller only turns on once the temp increases by 1.5deg. but the pump runs water through the chiller 24hours a day. wether the chiller is chilling the water on not the water is going through the chiller.

That's neither the point, nor the answer to the question I asked. I asked you how often and for what duration is the chiller running to find out if your pump is working correctly. Until you have specifcs any answer given is only a guess.

I don't know I have not checked it with that procision. I do know that today when the metal halides were on it seemed to be on for most of the day. I was not timing it, but everytime I looked over it was on.
I think it was on most of the day.

I'm more worried now that your chiller is not large enough. Is this on the 75 or 90g? I'm thinking nothing smaller then a 1/4hp chiller to efficiently chill the tank. 1/5th might cool it but it's going to run all the time. You could try a larger pump but I wouldn't expect much to be different as the water will be less cool when exiting the chiller. The target area is to have the chiller run for no more than 10 minutes once an hour with the lighting on.

it is a 1/4 hores on a 75gal tank
