Snail turning brown?

So I have a gold mystery snail. But she seems to be turning brown. It's not on her body, just the outside of the shell as far as I can notice. Could it just be algae growing on her? I must say it is definitely time for a tank cleaning. Should I just kind of wipe it off her or what? I'd rather have a gold snail than a brown one xD

Sounds like algae to me. Nothing else would change the shell color other than different shell growth due to environmental changes.
