anyone keep snakes?
I'm just wondering if anyone else here has any snakes? I have owned snakes in the past but hadn't had one for awhile. I just got a new baby black ratsnake the other day. He is very young and real fiesty, lol. I have owned a ball python, a cornsnake, a kingsnake, and a redtail boa before. Luckily I have never been bitten, yet. lol Not looking forward to my first bite either. I have been bitten by mice though, those little suckers don't let go either, lol.
Anyway, any other snake keepers here?
my new baby:
I haven't kept snakes yet. Well, I don't want to because of the risk of it escaping and then freaking out the whole household.:sarcastic:
Yes, some members have/had snakes. Dawn(bettababy) used to have a 13 years old Burmese python. Love_my_fish also has a snake. I believe the thread about her(er his?) snake is somewhere on page 3 in this section.:)
P.S. Got bitten by my hamsters almost 20 times.:sob: Luckily, hamsters don't seem to have rabies.:checkedout:
Nice pics there. I used to keep snakes many years ago, and was bitten a couple of times. I had a black rat snake and a couple of garters.
Now I prefer to stick to cats and fish :)
Yes, I have a snake but it's really my husbands, I just live with it and take care of it when he is gone for several days at a time. I'm quite nervous about it ever since it bit him, but he said it was his fault as he put his hand in when the snake was about to eat. It was the only time it bit him. Its a red-tailed boa, I guess close to 8 feet. My husband thinks he will find a someone to give it a better home because he doesn't do much with it and I think he is crazy -- he's had it since it was a baby and who would take a big snake like that? We just need to find a house, get some more room and make a bigger containment -- And maybe get some one to come over and handle it, cause I ain't gonna do it :)
redtail boas are beautiful snakes. snakes are pretty happy to be left alone most of the time, so not handling it much isnt bothering the snake, lol.
lots of people have snakes a lot bigger than that, lol....like the burmese pythons, they get huge!
i had a snake strike at me once cause I put my hands in the cage quickly when it was getting ready to shed. feeding time definately isn't a good time to put your hands in the cage. :)
I used to keep snakes. Got out of it. Just seemed to not do it for me I guess. garters, dekay, ribbon, blue racers, red rats, every single morph of corn you could imagine (I bought and sold as a wholesaler so I got them for $3 each. Would go to the swaps and buy 100 in a pillow case of several colors. I'd leave with 10 pillow cases full of corns), red tail, rock pythons, burmese python, carpet python, ball python, king snakes, solomon island boa, emerald green tree boa, western diamondback, massasauga.
I think it was that solomon island boa that did it for me. That thing was pure evil. It was about 2' long and had an acrylic cage that was 2x4x2 yet it would constantly smack at the sides bloodying it's face.
I had an Albino Burmease python at one time. Raised from 14 inches to just over 17 feet and 80 pounds. Talk about a handful. Got bit a couple times, well struck anyway. The last time was when I was getting ready to give him to the Snakeman, an in state man that raises them for show. Couldn't take him out of his cage anymore because of having children and their insatiable curiosity. Will likely get another one if I ever have room, my albino was in a huge cage, 8 feet long, 6 feet tall with half of the bottom being a heated platic peanut pond for him to swim in and play in.
I think if I ever do it again it will be a much smaller species.
Really nice snake, looks like a very healthy one too.
No snakes for me. I dont mind looking at them, and maybe touching them sometimes. I just dont think i could actually care for one.
caferacermike - I heard the solomon island boas can be pretty mean. they are nice looking snakes though.
fish_4_all - albino burmese are beautiful snakes, but I don't think I will ever have one due to the size they get.
Indeed I have a reguler corn (not one of the thousands of color morphs).
I am planning on getting hopefully soon a black rat snake, grows alittle bigger, plus looks cooler, and has more attitude.
This is my snake, he is just about twice as big now though (OK probably not twice but about a third longer, and much larger in width).
