Holding Driftwood Down...

Ok I have this piece of driftwood that I have been trying to get to log down and sink..... NO DEALS! So I have this nice slate stuff that Im planning on drilling a hole in the slate and screw it to the driftwood. Is puting screws in a fish tank bad? If not what kind should I used? Thanks
