questions on diy phosban reactor
So I am in the midst of building a phosban reactor from a diy I found on the net. I just have a couple questions
1) what should the flow rate be through the device?
2) I have a submersible pump from a decorative fountain. It doesn't have gph on it but it seems strong enough to do the job. Is there a way to measure gph?
3) the diy I found had a carbon reactor on the system. What would adding this help reduce?
4) how often would the media inside need to be changed?
5) right now I will be using all plastic fittings tubing etc but would it be ok to use some brass or galvanized fittings or would the metal add harmful stuff to the tank?

1. i dont know exact gph but i know phos should be a slow rate and carbon faster. i have heard ( dont know the truth to this) that if you grind the phos up it will poison your tank. something to consider.
3. carbon removes in-organics, like toxins from corals. use it.
4. i change my phos monthly and carbon every 2 weeks or so. i belong to a local reefing club and get them both real cheap, so sometimes even more frequent.
5. i would not use any metal. not only may it release something harmful, its going to rust.
