I am looking to upgrade my protein skimmer in my 75 gal reef tank I want something that will be almost over kill. the one I have is made for upto a 75gal tank and I just don't think it is doing as good of a job.
The guys that I work with use the ASM G4 brand by what I see is that it does a good job. Its rated up to 350gal. But they are so many brands and people have there own opions on which is better and why. For this question you might not ever get a good answer on which to upgrade.
ASM for price.
Euroreef for simplicity and excellent build.
Deltec, well because it's a Deltec.
H&S, because the 3 above it are all clones of the original H&S.
Bubbleking. A whole new idea to skimming. Pure genius.
If the price seems like a good deal then the skimmer generally isn't. Expect to pay above $250. You can find deals on the ER ESV-5 on Ebay all the time. It might save you some dough.
Stay with needle wheel skimmers. They are teh most efficient. Don't buy some cheap beckett skimmer hoping to save a dollar since you wil generally need to buy another pump to run them.
See for an example Not to step on CRM shoes but he says all that about skimmers but then someone might have a bad point to one of them. But if anything is true for a good skimmer you wont pay less then $250. CRM knows alot about skimmers if anything I would listen to him, as that is the only thing I'm not efficent on yet but plan to be.
