starting an SW few questions
Ok, so I'm finally going to start an SW, and I am going to try this the right way!
1, Is there any reading material you can recommend? I read several things on this forum and a few SW beginner guides I am open to any reading material from a link to another thread on a differant forum to somthing on amazon.
2, suggestions for a protein skimmer would be nice, my tank will be 55 gallons and I guess somthing under $300 for a skimmer would be ok?
3, I would like a sump/refugium probably DIY, would this be to loud for my bedroom? And some designs would be nice!
Ok now that thats done my stocking plans would be fish/ inverts with corral my wishlist as follows:
goby most likely watchman
yellow tail damsel?
dotty back/Royal gramma
bumble bee snail
star fish/brittle star?
I dont know, sugestions? I like trees and polyps and maybe toadstools??
Btw I dont plann to even by the tank till November and probably won't have it stock in spring of next year. And, the wishlist was Not the stocking plan, so please suggest!
There is so much to discuss here. I would suggest breaking this down into smaller topics for clarification as you go along.
First, skip the Yellow Tail Damsels. You are just asking for trouble.
For a skimmer, on a 55 I really like the Red Sea Berlin x2 Venturi. It will rock out a 55 gallon and can upgrade to a 125 in the future. You can get it for just under $200 at Aquarium Supplies, Pet Supplies and Pond Supplies by That Fish Place - That Pet Place.
You should look at some of the existing "build" threads for some good ideas on sumps, etc.:
Any chance you're in my vicinity? I have a perfect sump for a 55 that is just being wasted. You could pretty much have it in exchange for a cup of coffee or a nice brew.
No, i won't ship. I'm to lazy and not really nice enough to make the effort.-)
Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to decline... thats along way from north AL. I'll have to look at those links right away though!
