Raising swordtail fry
I'm noticing that my female koi swordtail is getting really big. When I bought her, I noticed a gravid spot but the belly was just a little bigger than normal. Should I place her in a breeding net? I have vallisneria, java fern, rotala, and cryptocorynes. How should I protect and raise the fry? The swordtails themselves are the only fish big enough to eat the fry.

With that many plants in the tank, you can get alot of surviving fry but you always get the best results when you seperate the fry from the rest of the fish in the tank. People usually put the females in the breeding net once they have a really dark gravid spot and their bellies are plump and sometimes almost square! Also, what other fish are in the tank? Hope this info helps!

The female gave birrth on Tuesday. I saved five fry and put them in a breeder trap. I feed them Hikari First Bites. In the tank, there are some cories and hatchetfish besides the swordtails.
