Un-able to breed Swordtails? I've so far been un-able to breed my swordtails (1 male, 2 female). Water has been about 80F. It's been probably a good 2-3 weeks since I bought them and I haven't seen either of my females appear to be pregnant. My water parameters are in check. Anything else I might want to check or maybe just this pair just won't mate? Thanks, Sj Is it possible that I did not notice her being pregnant, she had say 10-20 and the other fish in my tank ate them before I was able to get home from school? I have a few hiding places in my tank, but no plants at the top. |
are they all females or mals? and it may take a few weeks to be able to tell. that they are careing fry. |
1 male, 2 females. |
give it another week you sould be able to tell or there not quit macher yet. if ther not by then i would say there all females. or mails. |
I'd have to guess all of them are atleast 2" long. I'm almost positive I have 2 females and 1 male. The male has a 1" sword on his tail. Is it possible the male will not mate w/ these females and wants different ones? |
get one more male and two more females. see if that mixs them up. they may be to young still. |
I would get 2 more females and another male, make sure they look lively and healthy |
Sometimes, stuff like this happens. Once I had a male and female swordtail for 3 years and they never bred. |
My swords were in the tank three months before one of the females showed being pregnant, now I've had several batches, lost most fry to other fish so now have a breeding tank for pregnant females, which are removed after giving birth, no predators, so fry will do well. One female right now is huge, no black anal spot yet so may be a couple of days. Have six young from last batch, all are black except one with an orange nose. Now tell me what I've got? be interesting as they grow. |
