Another type of butterfly ciclid? 2 Attachment(s) So my LFS sold me another ciclid. Seemingly peaceful and attractive - but they told me this ciclid is a butterfly ciclid. It appears this is neither an African Butterfly ciclid or a blue ram. Any ideas what this "mutant" ciclid is? This fish is roughly 3.25 long (an 1" bigger than my 2 blue rams) and sports 5 vertical lines like an African butterfly but seems to have ram-like fins and coloration. Thanks. Would not mind finding a similiar or correct species for reference on this fish so all help would be appreciated. BTW - this is a good fish. Smart, mellow, and playful. EJ |
it looks to me like Bolivian Ram or Mikrogeophagus altispinosus |
could it be a gold ram? I have seen some with red like that.. |
Nah it's Definitely a Bolivian Ram. |
thanks guys I did a little internet research with your help and answers and I feel compelled to say this is a Bolivian Ram. And a very interesting fish. It appears this fish might be more durable than the blue rams. Even though the blue rams seem ok for now.... :-? |
He will also get a lot more colorful as he starts getting adjusted to the tank. I have two Bolivians in my 20 gal, but they never let me take pictures of them sadly. Although I shall keep trying! |
he's a fantastic colour ! |
