Looking through all the threads regaring filters, I seem to find most people favor the canisters (especially in planted tanks like I will have), but can't find a clear favorite. I guess I was leaning towards an Eheim 2217 because of the $130 price I found. Is that a good choice, or can I do better with something else for around the price or cheaper?
The eheims are going to be your best choice provided you don't try to overstock your tank. If you are going planted I am going to assume that you are not doing african or big cichlids. If smaller fish are in this tank's future, then you could probably be fine with a 2215 if price is a concern.
That is an insanely good price. The 2217 is usually over $150. MSRP is $170 I think.
