So I've just been searching around for explanations on what these are, how they are used, why they are used, learned tons about calcium, precipitate, alkalinity, carbonate, very interesting stuff.
Anyhoo, The Kalk Reactors I have found are tons of money! How are you guys adding kalk, because it cannot be that you need these 500 dollar units.
I found some DIY's but they are really crappy and have terrible explanations, if any.
Any info, thanks
How does this work, is it good?
A Simple DIY Kalk Dripper by Agu Lukk - Reefkeeping.com
Most of us are not adding Kalk at all. I have never understood the need for Kalk additions in most systems, given the effectiveness of the 2 part Calcium additions. If you have a very specific need for Kalk additions that you have been unable to solve, then perhaps the discussion is warranted.
In a nutshell, the hobbyists that use Kalk simply place it in a simple drip system, slowly dosing the aquarium overnight. Night dosing is preferable, because the pH drops at night and this will lessen the impact Kalk may have on spiking pH.
But for most of us, this is just unnecessary. The risks outweigh the rewards for the majority of hobbyists.
I see, so then what is the calcium dosing method?
What will I need to dose, in all honesty, I am quite lost on the whole subject.
