Does anyone know anything about having a water softener connected to the faucets inside your house? I currently use water from my hose outside since the softener isn't connected to it. I'm just curious about what's going on with the water softener i guess, i really stand clueless about it.
I have a well and all our tap water goes through a water softener. I take the water straight from the tap, I don't add anything to it. Most of my tanks haven't seen a single drop of dechlorinator/conditioner in over a year. So as far as I can say a water softener doesn't do any harm to a aquarium.
Hm, I don't have a well so there is plenty of chlorine and chloramine in my water so I treat it with prime. I just don't know if i should get it from the sink etc.
I don't see why not? All a water softener does is remove hardwater ions like Mg+ and some others and replaces them with salt ions or Na+ and Cl- . The amount of salt added is very minute and not something you need to worry about. This is assuming you are using regular water softener salt.
Using the hose is fine as well. Though are you not stuck with only cold water that way?
You could try doing really small waterchanges using the tap and see if you notice any changes.
Yeah when i do my partial next week maybe i'll try tap, because it is a pain with the house putting it in my biggest pan to put on the stove for a little while then into a bucket then pouring it haha.
