Giving up on Clown loaches!
I found another sick clown loach in my tank today!
It is bloated just like the other two clowns I had lost with the same problem.
Strange thing is, they have came down with this problem so far apart. The last sick clown was maybe two months ago, dont know for sure, I would have to go back to where I posted that thread.
This tank has been set up for over a year, no ammonia, no nitrites, but now high nitrates with this new problem with my tap water. Somewhere between 40-80ppm. Not sure, the colors on the card looks the same to me.
I could not find him again after I noticed him, so I am going to do a water change tomorrow, removing decorations, so I can find him and put him in QT.
Not that I was able to save the other two.
Think I better get to lowes tomorrow to get the stuff I need to finish up my diy nitrate remover. There were some flaws in my first design.
The other two clowns I have are extremly healthy and outgoing, (HOPE THEY STAY THAT WAY) so I will not be buying anymore clowns to try and up their number. They are not at all shy, so I think just the two will be fine together.:-(
Now I need to decide what to treat it for. IP, dropsy, or both?
Good grief, why was I not just happy having yoyo loaches!
I want clowns...
aww TM,sorry to read this.......
would it perhaps be an IP that takes time to manifest itself in that time ?
i lost a couple of clown loaches some time back, which left me with two,
i was scared to get anymore for fear of ICH,and i didn't have a QT,so the
last two was all i had,they have been fine,i don't see them that much,but i don't
know if that's because the yoyos are very in your face and roudy !
i don't think that the clowns like them, perhaps in alarger group they would
have "kicked butt" so to speak.
i need to find a new home for them now,as i'm turning to saltwater,
and my smaller tank wound;nt hold them,it would be cruel,it hurts to let them go
to be honest,i love the clicking in the morning to say "hay where's the food".
Hi Willow, that would be hard to rehome your fish. I am not sure I would be able to do it.
I do believe my clowns are suffering from IP.
The firts sick clown I treated for dropsy, the bloat went away, but then it wasted away even though I started treating it for IP.
The second clown, I started out treating for IP, it went quickly after becoming sick.
Think I will treat the whole tank with medicated fish food.
I cant understand why only the clown loaches. I have the 5 yoyos for about 1 1/2 yrs, and they have never been sick.
My largest clown is a real beauty, he was small when I got him, he is now the same size as the ones they ask $40. for at my fish store. I would hate to loose it.
maybe the food feeding will work for you i hope so.
was it kim on here has done it that way,and had good results ?
I'm so sorry to hear about your clowns. :(
Yes, it was Kim.
I have the same stuff she was using, it is what I tried to use on the first two sick clowns.
I tried to feed it to the fish in the tank this morning, they where not at all happy about it. I think the balas where the only ones to eat any of it. I will try to soak it in Guarlic Guard tonight. Maybe that will make it a little more tasty. It also does not want to sink, but maybe soaking it for a while will help.
i really wish you the best of luck,i'll keep
my fingers crossed for you.
loaches need perfect water conditions
Clown is now in QT.
Was not easy to catch, but I finally won. Still going to treat the main tank for IP.
Believe me, I try to retain good water quality, but with nitrates in the tap water, its making it a real challenge. Have spent a lot of money recently on nitrate removers, but have not seen any great improvement yet.
