Gigantic fish tank!
So, my girlfriend's dad is a huuuuuge thrift store buff. He goes to a couple local thrift stores on an almost daily basis. Being fish geeks, my girlfriend asked him to keep an eye out for good deals on fish tanks.
So today, he calls her up and lets her know that he found a giant tank, stand and canopy included, for $400, but since he's such good buddies with the staff of the store he can talk them down to around $220 or so.
Get this: the tank measures ten feet long by 3 feet wide by 2.5 feet tall. By my calculations, that's roughly 560 gallons!
I think we're going to be buying the tank and keeping it in storage (i.e. in my mom's basement, haha) until we have a place big enough to hold such a monster tank.
I've only just received this news, so of course I have no idea what I'd keep in it, although I can think of more than a few things....
WOW!! I bet you could put all kinds of stuff in a tank that size!
Pics or it didn't happen.
Lol. Sounds amazing. :-)
saltwater. reef. period.
Yeah I vote for saltwater reef!
Never thought to look for fish tanks in thrift stores. What a find! This may sound strange, but if anything ever happened to to all the large fish in my 210gal, I think I would set it up with a bunch of large schools of different small fish.
While its in storage, for halloween you could put manacins? in it and have the kids come to the basement to get thier candy and a free scare.
Seriously, great find. It happened to the right people. Good luck. Hope you get it.
I agree on the reef. While I want to do a huge amazonian tank one day, complete with current in it, if I could only have one huge tank I'd make it a reef tank.
I agree on the reef idea. If you have the money that is. A reef tank that big is going to hurt the pocketbook the first year for sure:shock:
Wow, a 20% water change would be 100 gal. Better buy dechlorinator in bulk.
I Have always wanted a school of Pirahnas, that tank would be big enough.
