I don't want to keep feeding my fish shrimp pellets and flake food. Aren't these foods too high in protein? Should I only offer my fishes fresh blanched zucchinii and other vegetables? I do give my tanks live brine shrimp and spirulina shrimp once evey one to two weeks for variety.. Any advice? |
I've never heard of too much protein in prepared foods being a problem, provided you don't overfeed. I feed flake and tablets every morning, but only enought that it is all eaten within 2 minutes. In the late afternoon I feed frozen bloodworms or similar. I use three different flake and tablet foods to provide variety, never the same food three days consecutively; some fish might prefer one over another, and the nutrients in each might be different. The protein on the flake foods are within the 45-50% range, and the tablets are within 30-45% range and one is a veggie (algae, spirulina) for the vegetarians (farlowella, whiptail). |

I agree. Problems with excessive protein usually come from feeding too much live blackworms or earthworms. |
I'd also feed them frozen much more often. I usually feed frozen foods about twice a week, sometimes three. I get a combo pack that gives me blood worms, brine shrimp, a veggie mix, and an omnivore mix. |
Tyyrylm, Where do you get a combo pack, what brand so that i may request it? Thanks |
LFS. not sure if the chain stores like petsmart or petco. individual stores usually have food choices that chain places may not have. |
