Is my pH to high or is my water stilling cycleing?
Hello I have a 20 gallon tank with 15 guppies and my pH is 7.6....is that too high? I have only had my tank up for 1 week now will it go back down? I know the water cycle is probably havent finished yet. will it go back down or no? what should i do to get it to go down some? I dont have the other tests down yet but so far my pH is alittle to high for my taste. What should i do?
pH is not an issue. What are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and KH?
Your ph is fine, mine tends to run very high :/ 8.2 but everyone seems to be doing pretty good.
Many of the livebearers such as mollies, platies, guppies and swordtails would do very well With Ph values of 7.6 to 8.0 for they much prefer slightly alkaline as opposed to soft or acidic water. Many who keep these fish in Ph values below 7.4 report problems with fin rot, fungus, shimmying, etc .
From what i have heard it could be from my tank still going through the cycling process too. So i guess i will see what happens in a few days.
That's a good plan. Ph fluctuations are not uncommon while tanks are maturing or (cycling) Keep a close eye on ammonia, and nitrites and change water as needed to keep the levels from becoming lethal for the guppies. I might ,were it me,(and it ain't) feed the guppies sparingly once a day or every other day. this will help keep ammonia and nitrites manageable.
