Hey all this is my first post. I'm looking to start a 30 gallon reef aquarium, or possibly 20 gallon,(I have both tanks) and all I really know for sure is that I want false perculas and some anemones. What would be the best lighting for this set up?
to start, the tank is the cheapest thing. now that you have that out of the way i suggest months of reading while saving funds.
as for "anemones" it is not a guarentee a clownfish will host it. ive seen clowns hosting live rock, corals, a clam, a powerhead, glass... really what it comes down to is what they feel safe and comfortable in.
in the wild i have heard nems living to be 200 years as well as them being eternal given the right conditions (meaning they dont die) either way both are a long time. the longest i know of someone keeping one is between 15-20 years. that is 10% of an anemones lifespan. if a nem goes belly up (esp in a tank this size) the entire tank will get "nuked" killing everything. you also say anemones, meaning more then one which raises issues. when they are adjusting to your tank they will walk all over it bumping eachother, stinging and possibly killing eachother, not to mention the issue of it crawling into a powerhead getting blended into a million peices.
i do not wish to discourage you but rather inform. please take time to educate the proper care and needs to what you wish to keep.
as for your question, T5s will be nice over a tank this size. Metal halides will just heat your water to much.
Welcome to the forum
Alright thank you for the advice. Where can I find t5 lights and how would I mount them to the tank. Do they come in a hood? also, are power compact lights not going to be strong enough?
I will only have one anemone, if any. Probably not after hearing your take on it.
