Which of these size tanks should I get?

I have decided to get a little larger tank than the 29 gal that I originally wanted because I am afraid I will wish I had a bigger one later on, and since I have the room, I have narrowed it down to the following. The longest tank I can accommodate is 36", so these are the options I saw at the stores and online:
38 gal: 36 x 12 x 20
40 breeder : 36 x 18 x 16
45 gal: 36 x 12 x 24
50 gal: 36 x 18 x 18
46 bowfront: 36 x 16 x 21

I would assume I would have the most options with the two 18" wide ones because of the most surface area, but it is just hard to visualize what these will look when full and with a wood canopy on top. Do they look better if they are a little taller and not as wide, or will it matter? And the bowfront one probably looks the nicest, but might be a little more challenging to building a stand. The prince is not a big deal because there is not a huge difference between all of these (I think about $40 was the most). So what do you guys think would look the best between these? This will be a freshwater community tank.

Just go w/ the 50...you'll be glad.

Agreed.

If you are worried about it looking strange, I have a 40BR as a reef... and you don't even notice the depth once everything is on it. It is also GREAT for aquascaping.

Ok that sounds good. I was worried about the depth looking strange, but that sounds good. I plan to put a lot of plants and wood and rocks in it anyways, so I guess I have more room to do that. I will try to see if I can find a 50 in a store, but if not, the 40 is almost the same size. I doubt 2 inches will matter much in height.

Well, just when I was going to go buy the 40, I made a couple more calls (even to a store I had already looked at), and they had a 50! It is $139 with the lid and the light, and I guess even though I am going to need to upgrade the light anyways, the cheapest I found the 40 gal with just the lid was $120. So for $20 more than I was going to spend, I can't complain. Maybe I can sell the light or something or see if I can buy it without it when I go in there. I just assumed Petco or Petsmart would be cheaper for tanks than an LFS, but Petco had the 40 tank only with no lid for $109. So I guess I can't go wrong picking up this 50.
