Just wanted to say great site, first time here. It looks like a majority of people here are in the US as I have mainly been speaking with people in the UK so glad to have found you all....
Not sure if I am just over reacting here or if something, maybe bacteria or fungus, has started to affect my tank. I purchased a Fire Gourami about 2 weeks ago to go along with the other in the tank and all has been well until a couple of days ago he stopped eating. Since then the fish has basically ballooned over the past to days and seems to be swollen. I took him out of tank to prevent anyone else getting sick and trying to treat him but just pulled out today. When I got home today I noticed one of my Angel fish seems very full or may have the same type of this happening to him. I did not notice anything this morning but there is a bump there now but he is swimming around just fine and eating plenty. Hopefully you see in the pics I took but I had to cut down the size considerably or just use Photobucket links. I do have some Macryn-Two but no hospital tank so would have to but in main and did not want to screw everything up all together. From searching site it looks like it could be Dropsy or water staying in fish or constipated?? I did add a little salt with water change yesterday and higher dose of salt to one pulled from tank.
45 Gallon Hex
Tank about 10 months old
No live plants
Tank is at 77.5 F
15-20% weekly H2O changes, changed yesterday after noticing some swelling
Any idea of the cause or of a treatment??
Your pH seems bit high But DONT change it.
Your angel may be female ready to spawn perhaps? Do you see a tube (ovipositor?)extended out from the anus? I would not med the whole tank not knowing what it is though.
Other pics are too blurry to makeout.
Don't believe it is a female and this Angel is dominant over the over and nothing hanging from anus except long string of poop, which is solid orange and a little white/stringy at very beginning. The little guy I had taken out today just passed. I heard splashing and went into kitchen to find him jumping out of water over and over then just simply stopped moving. The water I used was straight from the tank and temp did drop slightly, about 1 degree, but he just seemed to freak out and then dead!! Gently pushing on stomach where it looked stretched it felt very tight and did not deflate after death.
Just really hope this is not the beginning of the end, everyone else seems alright.
Any more side view pics of angel?
Never really taken pics of fish, little more difficult than I thought but I think you can see the bulge and it is the same on the other side. The other fish was smaller but the bulge much larger compared to this one. Thanks again for the help.
Dont worry! I am worse than you when it comes to any photography.
Although pic is very blurr, looks like a female to me (coming from old old breeder, lol) but need more vivid pic to confirm.
If fish are eating well as you've said, just monitor. If suffering from Dropsy or other sicknesses, probably would not have such good appetite.
Will keep my eye on them, thanks for the help!
