I caught my platies eating shrimp.

I've got three platies starting off my 20 gallon aquarium (so that I can move my other fish over) and they share space with ghost shrimp.

Well, there used to be four shrimp. Ha!

This morning I saw all three platies fighting over what looked like a piece of white carpet fuzz. But I don't have white carpet and there's no way fuzz can get in the water. Ya it was half of a dead shrimp. It only took a few seconds for the largest of them to get a hold of it and keep it.
Then he got selfish and swam around for a good five minutes with it in his mouth occasionally munching on it. Eventually he put it down behind one of the live plants in the corner.
After I got back from dropping my son off at school, I noticed the remains were gone.
Must've been good eats!

I'm really amazed how much bigger he got than the others. When I got them, they were all three the same size.

Meh. Doesn't bother me any. I actually think it's pretty neat.
At ten cents each, they're not too hard to replace. ;) And they're rather mindless so I wasn't too attached. Ha!

When I pointed it out to my son, his facial expression was slightly aghast. But when I simply said, "Eh, that's the way it goes sometimes." He seemed more interested and was okay with it.

I surely bet my fish will also eat the hatchlings of one of the other much larger shrimp.
I'll be out of town next week. I hope I don't miss it. :)

I think its funny how the one fish got it away from the others and swam around with it, then went and hid it. And people think fish aren't smart! lol
