Found snails on the anacharis i bought
i dont know how else to describe them.
What should i do?
Are they dangerous to fish or turtles?
they were on the anacharis leaves.
Re: Found snails on the anacharis i bought
Initially there were not many snails and I could have easily "squshed each one" but I did not because I did not know what would happen next.
As Ce said they multiply like crazy.
Within a month I had snails covering my rocks, my driftwood and my plants.
The snails and their eggs were so dense on the walls of my tank that viewing my fish was difficult.
Not wanting to employ chemicals for the eradication of the snails I purchased seven very small yoyo loaches.
In six weeks I had no snails but seven much larger yoyo loaches.
They did, however, very much bother me.
If you don't want them, dispose of them. Otherwise just enjoy them and allow them to prosper. They pose no threat, unless you really enjoy certain live plants.
The bleach wont kill the plants?
E.E bleach seems like it would kill plants
If it is too strong or you leave them in for too long it will kill them and the roots.
Best to stick with the pot. perm as it is safer. Also remeber to put the plants in some dechlor before back in the tank.
I have snails in my two planted tanks and as long as I don't overfeed, I only have to remove 20-30 a month for my other tank and the loaches. They are actually handy and I also have Malaysian Trumpet snails for substrate mixing.
ive never heard of this phosphorus p thing
where can i buy it?
Another way to get rid of snails whenever you first buy plants is to soak them in very salty water. Obviously this only works on snails who cannot survive in salt water
You've had some great advice. I only wanted to add that your turtles will eat them with glee.
Small snails will not hurt your tank or your plants for that matter. I have a 20g guppy tank with anachris and java moss for the babies and a bunch of snails to help keep the tank clean. They moved in with the anachris. Watch carefully for any mass die of. They can foul the water in a hurry.
