I was wanting to know if it is normal for goldfish to lose their scales. They're about 5 to 6 months old and i was wondering if this was normal or not.
Doesn't sound normal to me. Missing scales is probably an indication of damage from some sort of decoration or possibly fight. It might also be disease related.
My goldy has lost a few within her lifetime but it doesn't seem to be anything major. If they lose more than one or two I would definitely do a 50% water change to try to rid whatever the problem is. Have you checked your levels lately? Might be high ammonia
reminds me of a line i got from and employee at petsmart/petsathome/petcity/whatever
"these guppies are not for sale as there shedding there scales to grow new ones"
OMG!............thats sad and funny at the same time...........Guppies are shedding there scales so they can grow new ones.........Do you think i could call and get a set of new whiskers for my catfish?.........Once again a pet store gives bad advice......Thank God for fish forums such as this!!
