I'm cycling a new 34gallon Red Sea Max tank and found this guy on one of the live rock pieces. Trapped him last night with the glass and clam process and wondered if anyone might know what he is? I'm guessing a Stony Crab.

welcome to the forum.

very hard to tell in the picture but i do see a black sharp claw which indicates bad news. ill guess gorilla crab.
generally speaking sharp claws are for tearing as in meaty foods and spoon like claws are for grazing as in algaes, regardless crabs are opportunistic and will eat what they can, when they can. its a good thing you removed this one as he was bound to bring trouble.

Yea I keep forgetting to set a trap. I was looking at the tank with a flash like and saw a small crab that looks just like that one and two bigger ones all with black pointy claws. Going to capture them all tonight hopefully and throw them in the refugium of the 40.
