Tank mates (mbuna) Hurray, my 55 gallon tank is almost done cycling! This is exciting! I am looking to stock it in the next week or so. The fish I am looking at are (hopefully I can maintain the male/female ratios): Labidochromis caeruleus ( 1 male, 3 females) Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" (1 male, 2 females) What other Africans would work with these two species, the wife loves fish with rich coloration. Thanks for your help! |
With a 55 I would personally stay with the two species, and add a couple more females. I would do about 8 females total, and 2 males total. That will give you ten fish in a 55g which grow around 5inches plus. I love my acei, he's a beauty but dear lord he grew fast. He use to be the smallest in the tank and now he is the 2nd largest. But if you want another type I would suggest the Red Peacock or Orange Blossom. The red peacock's color is an reddish blue and the OB is bluish yellow. I also like my Greshakei but his colors haven't really developed cause I think he's a sub male not one of the dominant ones. I think a tank with the colors yellow, purple, and a red will really pop. Your decision though. *Sorry didn't read your entire post* Always up the females, with the Acei you should have 3 + females as well, so the male doesn't constantly harrass just the two. Remember 1 male to 3 females... If you had 3 species of fish then you would have 3 males total and 9 females total... eh that would do in a 55, but I wouldn't go any further. |
