can I mix different types of Danio's to form one school?
Can I get a pair of zebras, a pair of leopards and a pair of blue Danios to form one school of 6 or should they all be the same?

Leopard danios apparently do not appear to exist from the wild. They are much more of a sub-species of zebras.:) Danios do shoal even as different species although if they seem in different shape due to their different appearance, I doubt it.
I cannot say about the blue danio(Danio kerri) but leopards and zebras will shoal together. This is very much possible as I have done this before and they seem to like it.
Maybe not much of a shoal but rather getting along together and sometimes doing the pecking order.

I have little experience, but I do know that I have 3 different types of minnows (as you can see from my signature) and although it seems they will separate into their groups (the leopard hangs with the zebras), I'll turn around and they are all doing their thing together!

Ive got four types of Danios in our four-foot tank - zebras, ghost, leopards and Giants.
They spend most of their time chasing each other around - the giants keep to themselves - as in chasing each other - a lot more than the other group which just chase each other. Because the ghosts have long tails, they tend to get chased the most - itsnot really schooling as such - but its typical danio behavious.
