Air pumps? Has anyone had any experience with this type of air pump? Air Pumps by Hagen - Air Pumps & Accessories - Fish - PetSmart What would you reccomend for a 3.5 gallon tank? Also, do I NEED one for my 10 gallon? thanks!:-D |
No, you don't need one unless you have like Goldfish. Which I hope you won't. And sorry, I don't have any experience with it. |
nope, I don't! Thanks! So I would like someones reccomendation for a 3.5 gallon, cuz I have a betta in there, and he has a really bad immune system, he already had an undergravel filter and a heater, but thats not quite enough! I know I spend too much money on him, but hes awesome! anyway, If he stays healthy with this I can put a snail or something in there with him! |
I hesitate even asking this question because it could cause a huge debate... But, it may help. I'm assuming you've been dealing with this "bad immune system" issue for some time, correct? And nothing you do seems to help? Have you tried adding aquarium salt? |
I think salt would be worth a try. |
I am a firm believer that salt does nothing to help anything, except aide in ich when it happens. |
oh, thanks guys, I do add aquarium salt occasionally. Cody, It might not help, but it does not hurt to try when all else fails! anyway, does this air pump look Ok? |
I've heard that salt messes with their osmoregulatory system. Couldn't it be used in small quantities when the fish is sick? |
Salt is not good at all IMO. It raises the hardness of the water, which can be terrible for many popular fish. It also weakens the fish's Osmoregulation system. Osmoregulation is basically how fish transfer salt in and out of their body. In new systems where people *want* you to add it, it may make fish relax, but the outcome of this is it weakens the fish's slime coat. If salt is added over and over, the slime coat is weakened and weakened, making the fish weaker. The overdose of salt eventually makes the fish unable to process it through its gills, which makes it incapable of getting rid of excess water. I think that is the scientific way of explaining it... |
is it ok for bettas? Thats the only fish I SOMETIMES use it on. |
