Ok why do I only have female fry and no males?
This is the second batch of fry my mollies have had and I have 14 females and no males. what am I doing wrong? I just heard that it maybe has something to do with the temp of the water. I keep mine at 77 degrease.
edit: they develope pretty late and then yu can tell. How old are they?
My first batch is 3-4 weeks old I think and the new batch are only a couple days old.
They will all appear female until about 3 months if I remember correctly
How many male and female adults do you have? I have heard that if you have more females than males in your tank, you will get more male fry, and if you have more adult males in your tank, you will get more female fry.
I have 3 males and 6 females
You likely will have about equal numbers of males and females once the fry have had a chance to develop their sexual characteristics. At 5 weeks, you can't tell on most of these guys and all look female but I am not concerned about that. When they are around 2 to 3 months old I expect them to sex out about equally.
Actually a close inspection of the picture leads me to think I have at last 4 that I am fairly sure will show male characteristics in less than 2 more weeks. Lots of the others probably will too when they develop enough.
Interesting this temperature theory....my 2 last platy fry turn out to be all males (10+ surviving fish each fry) and my tank is at 75˚...just wanted to share
