Protein film question
Since I switched my substrate to sand about 2 months ago, I've had a protein film at the top of my water. I'm just wondering what causes it, whether or not it has an effect on anything, and if it's worth investing in a skimmer or something. Nothing else has changed since I switched to sand... my parameters are all the same, my fish are happy as ever, its not cloudy at all... just a film at the top of the water. Thanks!

whats your filter like on what size tank?

increaseing the flow will help fix this. its prob. reducing your gas exchange.

I have a Marineland C-160 canister filter, it's on my 29g. It doesn't put out quite as much as it did when it was new, but I do keep good care of it, making sure it isn't clogged or anything. I was also thinking it might be a flow issue, so I put an old powerhead I had into the tank but it just irritated my fish (the lowest setting on the powerhead doesn't work so I have to put it halfway or all the way). Should I maybe get a second filter or something to help water flow, or a new powerhead?
