adding another filter?

I'm re-setting up my 36 gallon bow front tank..it came with a Aqua Clear 50 filter. I would like to add another filter but something cheaper that is effective and can help out. Any suggestions? The reason I want extra filtration is because I'm going to have quite alot of fish in it. We have a walmart and petco around here.

the ac50 is rated for 50g. if you really want more filtration, your best bet is to just get another ac50

A word of caution on Petco & Walmart fish purchases: Quarantine!
Each time I've been in one of these stores I've seen Ich on their fish. They use a centralized filter system and if one fish has ich they've all been exposed. Just a heads up.

more filtration doesnt really mean you can stock more fish. the extra filtration will help remove suspended poop and food particles from the water and add additional surface for benificial bacteria to live but can your tank substain all these fish even at their full growth? will there be aggresion issues between the fish? these are questions you need to ask yourself. do you know what your planning on stocking?

Dump the aquaclear and get a Penguin 350 bio wheel filter. That will definitely increase your capacity. In the aquaclear you just don't have enough area for the bacteria to grow. The Penguin 350 will never have the wheels stop turning if you change the filter pads and clean the impeller once a month.

I recommend either the Penguins or A good Whisper filter. I have been using Whisper since I started and have NO complaints

yeah I use a Penguin Bio-Wheel in my tank, never had an issue with it. 350 will work great, here's a link:

I hear what your saying too kymmie....I never have ANY luck with the fish from Petco or Walmart. I only buy from the supercenter down the street from me, they're the best!

if you already have an aquaclear filter, no reason to downgrade to a whisper or pengun
