Snail in un-filtered tank?

ok, so My boyfriend just randomley got my this cute little betta home, but its un-filtered with no heater (I can add a heater if nessisary) so idon't wanna get a betta... Are there any snails that would be happy in here?

veganchick 02-07-2009 12:30 PM

I was thinking maybe a ramshorn, but I'm open to anything!

Snails are more sensitive than most people think. One wouldn't last long, or thrive in an uncycled environment.

Also, how big is the tank? Lupin could give you some ideas as to species.

7.5 gallon

Get a heater and a sponge filter. You don't need any other filter. A sponge filter should be sufficient. The only snails I'd put with bettas are nerites or MTS. Bettas tend to harass snails especially when they expose their soft tissues.

Actually, it depends on the betta.

MTS are really cool! will they do ok in a non-planted tank? or should I get some plants for them? Thanks for the Advice, Lupin! Is there anything I need to know about them?

They stay in sand (yes, you want sand if you get them) 95% of the time. Mostly used for stirring sand in planted tanks.

And if you get like 4, that will be 40 in a few weeks, and so on.

Overfeeding is often the cause for population boom. I'd throw a few adults every week just to control the population. They'll do fine in tanks with or without plants. They're basically undemanding.

ok, thanks... what if I changed what I was gonna do and made it like a mystery snail/shrimp tank, mabe 1 male guppy, then what kind of mystery snails?
