- - RBTA sick (http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/coral-reef-creatures/rbta-sick-21071/)
I've had my RBTA for a month or so. All my water par. are good. My anamone looks like some of its arms are missing and on one side almost all of them are missing and their is a black spot. I just added my coral beauty angelfish then this started. The anamone was in the back where I could'nt see him so I moved him and he looked bad. It can't even get the food it catches to its mouth. It also looks like its melting. Its now looking better but not very. Anything I can do or just wait and see?
Can you give us some more info? Numerical water parameters (sg, nitrates, pH, alkalinity, and calcium at a minimum, magnesium and phosphates too if you can)... people often say "my water is good", but that doesn't convey much information. How large is your tank, and how long has your tank been set up? Really important: what kind of lights do you have?
All of the above will be critical, I can't imagine they are all tip-top and the anemone is still doing poorly, but its possible. Knowing the details of your tank can help us identify what may be ailing your nem, and what you can do to try and save it if it's not too late. Those guys can be expensive so let's try and get him fixed!
when in return clowns do 100% fine without one.
im going to tell you right now rejecting tenticles and appearing like its melting are very bad signs.
as stated, please post every water param you possibly can including temp. and SG (salinity) and your lights and when they come on/off
Temp.80, SG 33 PPT, PH 8.2, Ammonia 0, Nitrite0, Nitrate5, Calcum 400, KH 161ppm, Phosphate 0, 29 gal, 20lb LR, 20lb LS, orbit 30" 2-65w(dualdaylight&dualactinic),AquaC HOB PS, since 11/08. 1blenny, 2 ocellaris clowns, 1 coral beauty, some snails and hermits and a conch.
Its doing better its arms are growing back and is getting fuller tips again . What is table shrimp? Frozen cooked shrimp.
cool, thanks for the detail. Well nothing to me jumps out of those parameters that says something is wrong, and the lights you listed should be fine for a BTA.
Hopefully it recovers well. What do you feed it, and how often? I received a very sick RBTA, and am slowly nursing it back to health by feeding small pieces of silversides every day (usually shouldn't feed an anemone every day, but mine was starving and I'm doing this to rapidly provide it some nourishment until it gets healthy again). At first mine wasn't able to grab the food either (like you described), so I gently placed the piece against its mouth until it started to open and expel its stomach to grab the food, then I would stand guard to make sure my clown didn't rob it before it could swallow it.
Was the anemone in great shape when you purchased it, and it declined in the first month it was in your tank, or was it looking bad when you brought it home too? Anyways, if you're feeding it pretty regularly, then I don't personally have any other suggestions to make :-(.
This website was a great help to me, you might take some time and read through the various pages/articles, maybe it will contain some info or advice that you will find helpful. Good luck! And keep us informed about how it fares!
