Can someone tell me if I am overstock. I have a 20 gallon freshwater tank with plastic plants and decorations, 1 30g whisper, 1 curtain air bubbles
2 red claw crabs (have a home made habitat, so they can breath)
1 blue crayfish
2 dwarf gourami
I test the water every 3 days with the API test kit, and everything seems normal, the ammonia, nitrates, and ph levels are ok. I change the water 15% every week temperature is at 77/78. I put the recommended amount of salt, and stress coat. Everything seems to be ok, no fish died yet, some have been in the tank for 3 weeks now. Should I worry, they all seem to be doing good.
Is the salt for the guppies or crabs or what? I'm wondering if cories are ok with salt..I'll look that up.
It is for both, I put one table spoon for every 5 gallons.
I don't think cories do well with salt at any level.
Agree. Never use salt with catfish, nor any soft water fish (like the gourami) either. If you want to know why, here's my article on the subject:
Thanks for the input I will fix the water right away. But is my tank overcrowded?
thanks, but is the tank overcrowded?
The cray will likely turn on your fish eventually same with the crabs as well. The crabs need land but also need a source of brackish water, without these they usually will not last half a year. Neither are suitable for a community tank.
Fish wise you are fine. The inverts really need to be removed.
