What watage heater would I need for my 180g fish only tank? Average temp in the tank location is 60f
The general rule of thumb is 3watts per gallon. So you have 180 then you need 540watts, but i don't recommend getting a big heater like that. Instead, spread that into 2 heaters. Get 2 300watts heaters. I say this and will forever recommend this because if a 540watt heater gets stuck on(and they can) then you tank will heat up really fast, but if you have a 300watt get stuck on, it'll slowly raise the temp and not by too much. Then you have more of an opportunity to understand what's occuring in your tank. i say 2 possibly a third with close to the same wattage just incase it gets colder you can manually plug in the 3rd heater and bring the heat up to desired temp. So don't plug the 3rd in unless you have to.
