how to encourage cichlids to spawn
I have had these guys for about 6 months now ad they are pretty cool fish. I think they are "Labeotropheus trewavasae". I got them from Daves Rare Aquarium Fish (Dave's Rare Aquarium Fish-Price List) at the store when I was in the area. I don't really have any experience in spawning cichlids other than when my flag top pair would spawn on their own every so often untill the female died. They are exhibiting behaviors like coloring up next to each other and doing the shimmy- so I think they may be getting close, but no actual spawning is taking place.
So I was wondering how I can encourage them to pair up and spawn. Tank conditions, temperature, etc. Do I need to seperate the pair and put them in a tank by themselves? I would like to avoid taking them out of the tank since reintroduction to the main cichlid tank can be tough.
Here are some pix of them if its any help:
This is the male, he is solid blue:

I am not exactly sure but I am also curious about this topic so if I find anything I will post back when and if I do find something regarding this topic ThalesthePearsei... the only thing I've actually found is cichlids like the water around 80 degrees for breeding purposes but I am not 100% sure of this so please do not quote me on it and blame me for anything that may happen to the fish. Like I said, if I find out anything I will post back.
By the way, your fish are awsome lookin... lol
Two males. Good luck.
