SAE and Beef Heart
I am posting in this forum as this observation would seem atypical.
Anyone ever seen a Siamese Algae Eater "munching down" on a beef heart mixture.
This behavior might be predicated by the garlic or by some remnants of fish flakes in "the clump".
Anyone else have any thoughts?
They may have acquired a taste for it. I know my clown loaches and angelfish eat the beefheart mix, which is intended for the discus.
CAE are suppost to be more of into meat once they become adults. Some say they stop eatting algea all together when they reach adulthood. Ive had fish that ate anything i put in the tank, anything. Some fish adapt to the aquarium very well and this looks like one of them.
But, Gump, SAE and CAE are far different. I have my SAE relishing on bloodworms. I have yet to give my aro beefheart.:sarcastic:
My SAE's are only juvies but this is the 1st time I have observed one of them "munching down" on beefheart.
Hence the post.
I fortunately still observe them eating on the alage on the tank walls and plants.
They do, Jones.:) My four-year old SAE is still on hair algae despite relishing on bloodworms which is meant for loaches.
My 7 SAE's also enjoy bloodworms, brine shrimp, etc. but their "hands down, no hold bars" favorite are the beef heart, shrimp and cod mixtures. (Their favorite appears to be the beef heart mixtures.)
Same for the other fish in my community tank.
I believe it is because of the garlic (and maybe the changing flavor induced by the veggies which I vary).
Even my two red tailed sharks "get into the act"!
When I feed the mixtutres and some is left on the bottom I feed flakes until the mixture has been consumed.
I have published this photograph before but this is what 7 sterbai "look like" after feeding flakes for a day and then feeding beef heart.
