8 Foot Tank!
Hey all , through my seach for a bigger tank i have come across an 8' ex-marine tank.. comes with cabinet stand and a hood.. i think it is 8x2x2 but might be 8'x18"x18" glass is 12mm thick and 14mm thick base.. just curious to what someone would pay for this second hand.. the fella is a fish nut so everything woul be pretty propper.. like decent ilter (dunno if you can use SW filters in FW..) like convert them.. would have a good few lights..
might be different prices over here in Aus
IDK, i heard that salt residue will be your main problem if it is going to be a FW tank from a SW tank. Why not just keep it a salt water tank. ASk they guy for some advice or post questions here. thats just me.
andways awesome find.
134.65 G tank? if its 8' by 18" x 18"
The salt residue can be cleaned out. There is no problem in making it a FW tank as long as it is properly washed.
massive school of neon tetras
It's probably a 200 or 240 gallon tank. When you get up into a tank that long they don't come as narrow or shallow as 18" without being a custom job. What's a good deal on it? Not entirely sure. What I'd recommend is finding out what such a stand/tank combo would cost brand new. Never pay more than 50% of the initial price for something used. If he's looking for 30% of the original price or less then go for it, its a good deal.
You mentioned a filter, does it come with one?
If it was used as a saltwater tank, there's a strong likelihood that it's drilled. This means there are holes in it for plumping for the sump. You can either:
1) Plug the holes with acrylic panes and silicone and use standard freshwater filtration methods like power or canister filters
2) Take advantage of the tank being drilled and use a wet/dry filter. These filters provide massive amounts of biological filtration and can be great for things like big cichlids. A tank that size is capable of housing large fish such as wolf cichlids, if you're so inclined, so having that filtration option available is very nice.
