New to forum/from Atlanta, GA

Hey all,

I am new to this forum as well as to the betta world by adopting Spiderman from a friend that was moving out of state. I have had some goldfish in the past but nothing too needy. So I got the 2 gallon tank w/ a pump and a light, some Betta pellet food, and a net. That is all he's been being cared for with since he was purchased (I want to say in August, but will have to check on that).

I just took some pictures of my little guy, Spiderman, trying to get a good one of his left side -- he decided to swim in the opposite direction the entire time lol! I have a posting in the Bettas forum that expresses my concerns in more detail--"I've been killing my fish and didn't know it until now..." and will try to get better pics of his left side so that someone may be able to tell me what is wrong with him--besides all the things I just found out that were wrong as off last night...it almost looks like he's peeling alittle, got in a scrap (but he's alone with a coral-like castle and some gravel and pebbles), or maybe cut himself--I don't know though. So I will try some more until I get one clear enough to view what I'm speaking of.

My name is Christine and I love all animals, reptials, fish--all living creatures for that matter!!! I have a 16 yr old cat named Spunky that is adjusting to living with her new brother and sister, Bambam and Pebbles-which are siblings about 6 yrs or so that like to play together. Spunky likes to play alone :) but has always had an interest in fish. She and Spiderman hung out the other day and I actually think the time was enjoyed by both of them :) Bambam likes to hang out with him too :)

I look forward to any and all advice about caring for Mr. Spiderman.

Thank you for reading my posting :-)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Hello and welcoe. It sounds like your betta has scratched himself on that castle. Skin infectuin and fungus are the issues here. Go to the FISH DISEASE SECTION under medications on this site, Lupin was kind enough to post it. There is a betta formula listed. The sooner the treatment the better the outocme. I'll bet your betta would love a soft (real) plant to lie on.I would do a comp;ete water change as well.

thanks catfishtabbi,
i just posted my pics on the betta forum if you could take a look and let me know if that's still what you think it is. also, someone else was suggesting that i just do a 30% water change right now...but i was thinking like you, that a full water change may be needed to gets things off on the right foot, finally, for the little guy :)

Sorry i lost the link i was cooking a late dinner.I know a water change wont hurt a betta.Do you dechlorinate and/or adjust the ph in your tank ? I would sure pick that med up.Do you think hes been rubbing on the castle ? I'm going to look at your pic's now, if you don't reply it's ok & late and i'll be om tomarrow.

In a 2 gallon I would do a complete water change, too, as catfishtabbi said. If there are any sharp or rough places on that castle, he may have cut himself on that.

hey catfishtabbi,

yes, i do have a conditioner to balance the water and i just got the test kits for testing all the recommended balances, so will be doing that from now on too. i guess he must of cut himself with the castle because there is nothing else in there for him to get into...i'm also going to be getting him a live plant since i notice he likes to lie on the castle alot :)

and dramaqueen, thank you for your advice about the water change, i will be doing that today!!!
