Betta lying on bottom of tank
Have a betta fish that seemed fine yesterday, took food, was swimming. Today is just sitting on the bottom of the tank, or sitting on an anubius leaf. Not eating. Swims a little but not much. Fiance thinks he might have gill hyperplasia, see photos. Seems to be breathing more rapidly. 2.5 gallon aquarium, Temp 76, Carbon mini-filter. Did a 30% water change today, Nitrate and Nitrite 0, NH3 level 0. What is going on? No white spots.
I know my little sister had a beta fish in a bowl once, and it looked quite miserable sometimes. he would be swimming up to eat, and then he would just fall back to the bottom and stay there for hours. I decided to rescue the little guy and put him in my 10 gallon tropical tank and within a couple days he was swimming around like normal, was an awesome fish to have... but unfortunately the tank conditions it lived in before shortened his lifespan and he died after a year of the 10 gallon. So if you have the money to spend, I might try that, however, yours looks much more healthy than my sister's did.... How old is it btw? might just be age getting to him.
We've only had him for a couple of months. He's swimming around a little and then back to the bottom of the tank. His color looks good. I have a larger tank with community fish, though I'm told he and the angels and the dwarf gouramis might not get along together. Will do another water change today and see if raising the temp a bit to 78 helps. pH is 7.0. Thanks
Now he's on his head
So he swims a little more today, but now he's at the bottom of the tank standing on his head, see photo.
