My first (new) skimmer,

I've got a 1 month old tank, 50lbs of live rock in a 46 gallon tank. The rock come cured from the store and there were at one time 3 fish, I've gotten rid of my two blue damsels and now just have on striped damsel. The protein skimmer Im using can be put inside a sump, or out.. and I currently have it hung over the side of the tank, I'm getting good air mixture in the mixing chamber, its pure white.. with a 1/4 inch foam level at the time. However, I'm not getting any discoloration or rise of foam into the cup.. the skimmer has been running now 4 days.. 2 with the pump deep and very little air, and then 2 more with the pump at the surface and good air. Im carring alot of tiny white bubbles from the mixing chamber back into the discharge chamber then back into the tank.

This is a link to the skimmer Aqua Medic : Seawater Catalogue : Protein skimmers : Turboflotor Blue 1000

Is it acting normal, or do i have something not set up right. Also there is a valve to handle flow.. I have it at the minimum.

skimmers can take a week or two to "break in"

basically it has to build up a proper slime coating to skim effectively

Agreed. Wait it out.

Has the performance improved?
