Needle Fish Alternate food question?
I like watching my needle fish Swim and Strike a feeder like a perfect killing machine. my only issue is he can only eat feeder fish.
recently i saw him attempt to eat a blood worm i feed my other fish and it broke my heart that he wants to expand his taste pallete but cant because he is to specialized to eat minnows. Any people find a differnt type of food for them or any homemade stuff?
I was thinking maybe if i Mashed some Blood worms into a tube like shape so he could better swallow it would be better. But i dont wana waste fish food with experiments. i much rather hear what you guys have to say.
When did you aquire a needlefish? I thought they were saltwater?? Can you post a pic??
i believe there are fresh and, brackish and saltwater needlefish.
an example of a freshwater needlefish would be the needlenose gar. if this is the case they get HUGE!
yeah, its a freshwater one. it gets about 7" long. There are many types of needle fish all ranging for 3 feet to 6" Ive had this needle fish for a long time. its been in my 45 gallon.
Have you ever tried krill? Im not saying the fish will go for it. You could buy a small pack from the freezer section, if the needle fish does not like it, some of the other fish will eat it. My minnow pike have a strong hunger for live fish but they will eat krill.
im not worried he will like it. its his ability to just eat Live Fish. Because of the shape of his jaw and the type of teeth he has its almost impossible for him to eat anything smaller than a minnow.thats not him, but the what he looks like exactly
thanks twistersmom for that, but our two fish dont have the same type of mouth. and there fore completely different way on eating.
do you raise your own feeders? it wouldnt be hard setting up a tank (or using an existing one) to raise some feeder guppies
yes, i raise fancy guppies
its just hard for me to bring myself to put a guppy in the tank knowing i watched and Raised it to life :P So its easier if i use an alternate food :P
Not saying my needle fish will never eat feeders again. Just wana Vary the diet.
do you feed those to him? i wouldnt be feeding him daily anyways
