Anyone have an aqueon HOB filter?
Hello everybody! I've got yet another question. I'm running my 20 g. tall tank with an aqueon HOB filter as well as a small sponge filter. I'm wondering how to go about changing the filter cartridge in the aqueon. I have new filter cartridges but I'm not sure how to "introduce" them when the time comes. I've read that you shouldn't just take the old one out all at once, but if I don't do that how do I ever get the new one in there? I'm a bit confused.
I've had the tank running now for 3 months. It is completely cycled and pretty much stocked. The water parameters are testing great: ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate 10. When I do a water change I swish the filter around in the removed tank water and just put it back. I'm thinking I should be changin it though soon, just don't know exactly how to go about doing that. If someone has an aqueon and can help me out I'd appreciate it! Thanks.
Does it have a sponge-like pad as well? These are used as an area for benificial bacteria to colonize and as long as you leave that one in, changing the other one should be fine. On my tanks that don't have one of those, I have never had a problem changing the entire thing at once mainly because I don't touch the rest of the filter or the gravel at the same time.
Because your tank is so new, I'd advise you not to change it just yet unless it is obviously not working or falling apart. It won't hurt if it's "old" unless it's not working properly. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it doesn't have a sponge like pad as well. I wish it did. I do have a sponge filter running so I'm assuming that should help during a change. So far the cartridge isn't falling apart or anything so I'm just going to let it go for now. Thanks again.
