hey I took a pic of my 4.5 inch pleco dorsal view. He has uncoalesced dark spots on top and bottom and exhibits a brown banding pattern i do not see on the smaller one...any idea to what species? (scientific name please)

he has at least 12 dorsal rays so i know its of the genus pterygoplichthys

going out on a limb and saying pterygoplichthys pardalis or pterygoplichthys gibbiceps but im only guessing so dont mark my words

Pterygoplichthys pardalis • Loricariidae • Cat-eLog Image • PlanetCatfish

i dont think it can be pardalis because pardalis have to have coalesced cheveron pattern on the sides and this one doesnt could b a gibbiceps...does the pattern have something to do with it? this one isnt old enough to distinguish the characteristic crest of gibbiceps
