Stocking 20G Long
I'm kind of new to the hobby and almost done with the cycling of the aquarium using pure ammonia (Fishless Cycling). 3 weeks into the cycle. I use a penguin bio-wheel 200gph filter. And the temp. is set at 78 degrees for now. I really want a nice community tank but there are so many fish to choose from. Can anyone help me choose a couple of nice fish to make an active and peaceful community tank?
Thanks for the help =)
Ah, choices choices...
Why I do have some things in mind, it may be best to take a trip to your local LFS or wherever you purchase your fish, and write down the names of all the fish you like. Then, you can come back here and we can decide what is best. After all, it is your tank! :-)
Being a 20 long opens up a lot more options than a 20 high as well. So good choice. :-)
Thanks for the reply Cody =)
I have already visiting the LFS and was thinking something sort of like:
6 neon tetras
6 zebra danios
1 Dwarf gourami
1 Bristlenose Catfish
I'm not positive if they are all compatible or if that is a good mix. Let me know what you think please =)
All should work well.
Yeah that's a pretty decent stocking list right from the get go. I prefer cories to the BN but that's just a personal preference, nothing wrong at all with that list.
Why y'all hatin on the bristlenose?:jk:
That list works well. You could also do something like ten corydoras catfish and ten small schooling fish like neons, black neons, zebra danios, etc. The 30" opens up a lot of options for more active schooling fish. A school of dwarf neon rainbows would look fantastic.
Be sure to wait until you have a good growth of algae before adding the bristlenose. And they arent the best scavengers, most prefer veggies. If the bristlenose is your only bottom feeder you should consider adding trumpet snails.
In that size tank the pleco is going to have to eat what's offered. Producing enough algae to keep him fed would be nearly impossible.
