my peacock cichlid has turned from black, yellow, and white to brown and white, Why?
my peacock cichlid has went from black, yellow, and white to brown and white. I would like to know what has made him change his colors hes still very pretty but i knida liked the beforre colors. what can i do to fix it? Thank you
What species of cichlid is this, do you have a photo?
I can only assume based on the information that you've provided that the change in color is genetically pre-determined, which is something you have no control over and will not be able to change nor revert back to "original settings".
My Sunshine peacock is pretty bright during the day but at night he seems to get a very pale coloring. I was never worried about it. I assumed this is a natural defence mechanism because some like to hunt others at night and the brighter the color the better a target especialy since they are from a deeper part of the lake with less lighting(in their natural habitat). What would you say AndrewM21?? Would that be one of the possible reasons? That was a total assumption/guess that I never thought to ask about.
At any rate, one of the most common causes of change during day/night would be camouflage, however, that is not the only reason. There are special "diets" that will boost the color of certain fish as well, then of course you have inbreeding/inter-species breeding which will produce oddly colored fish as well.
There could be several causes of the fish changing in this case as we have not been given much information to base it on.
